MEETING AND CONVENTION PLANNER
Ellen (Ella) M. Young is currently the meeting and convention planner for the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, Inc. Founded in 1924, it is the largest association of African American funeral directors, morticians and embalmers providing support, education and resources to members through the United States, as well as the Caribbean, South Africa and the United Kingdom.
Ms. Young started out as the executive assistant for the association in 2005, where she assisted the executive director in the day-to day operations of the national office of NFD&MA. Ella was promoted to meeting and convention planner in 2009. She assists with the pre-planning, implementation and care of all major meetings and events throughout the year, including preparing registration materials, securing hotel room blocks, maintaining rooming lists, selecting entertainment and activities for attendees and the youth program.
Prior to working with the NFD&MA, Ms. Young was employed with fortune 500 companies Data2Logistics, Cisco System as a supervisor, and brokerage firms Smith Barney and SunTrust.
Ms. Young resides in Georgia where the association’s national headquarters is located. She is a member of the GAMPI meeting professional organization and is working toward her certification to become a Certified Meeting Professional. Ms. Young plans to return to college in the spring of 2014 and will earn her bachelor’s degree by 2016. She is a native of Lambert, Mississippi.
